Chatham Fire Department Association Events

The Chatham Fire Department Association (CFDA) has proudly served the Chatham community for over 39 years, conducting events beyond fire safety. These events are not supported by tax dollars. Therefore, each year we reach out to Borough residents during our annual Fund Drive in an effort to secure funding for some of Chatham’s most celebrated community events. As a purely volunteer organization, 100% of our funding is sourced from our residents.

Annually since 1962 the fire department has purchased hundreds of live trout from a New Jersey hatchery to stock Kelley Pond located behind Milton Avenue School. The event is open to all Chatham Borough and Township youngsters under the age of 13. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided. Prizes will be awarded in many categories.

Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks

Since 1952 the Chatham Borough Fourth of July celebration has been sponsored by the Fire Department. The event gives the community the American “hometown” feeling and has come to symbolize what life is like in small town USA. The annual parade gives community organizations a chance to march in the parade and provides Borough residents with the opportunity to cheer on family and friends. Fireworks cap off a day of picnics and neighborhood parties in a fitting celebration of our nations birth.

Fire Prevention Week

The Department’s fire prevention efforts go on throughout the year, but the most visible effort takes place during National Fire Prevention Week in October. Borough firefighters conduct an open house and put on special demonstrations and displays of both equipment and the latest firefighting techniques. Handouts and fire safety tips are distributed to Borough residents. School programs are also provided to all kindergarten classes in the Borough as well some special pre-school presentations.

Christmas Eve “North Pole Express”

On Christmas Eve Santa makes his annual visit to the Gazebo located adjacent to the Fire House. Attending children get to sit on Santa’s lap and receive a candy treat sponsored by the Fire Department.

Annual Fund Drive

The Chatham Borough Fire Department takes great pride in sponsoring the community events listed above, but could not do so without the annual donations of Borough residents. Each year, Borough residents are contacted by representatives of the Fire Department and asked to donate toward the Annual Fund Drive. These donations allow the department to offer all the unique community events listed above.
